About TherapyDecision & Our Editorial Policy
Therapy and online support come with a confusing amount of choice - different formats, different price points, different professional titles that all sound similar. TherapyDecision exists to make that landscape easier to navigate: clear, well-sourced explanations of what each option actually involves, so you can make your own informed decision rather than guess.
What this site is - and isn't
TherapyDecision helps people understand the different kinds of therapy, counselling and online support available, and compare their options. We do not diagnose any condition, provide therapy or counselling ourselves, or tell a visitor what treatment they need. Nothing on this site replaces advice from a qualified professional.
Who writes this, and who checks it
We want to be upfront about this: TherapyDecision is not a clinic, and our writers and editors are not licensed therapists, counsellors or medical professionals. None of our content is written from personal clinical experience, and it shouldn't be read as clinical advice. What we do instead is research carefully and cite our sources, so you can check the original yourself rather than take our summary on faith.
How we research and write content
Every article on this site is built the same way:
- We start from primary, authoritative sources - the NHS, the American Psychological Association (APA), NIMH, WHO, and professional bodies like BACP - and peer-reviewed research where it's directly relevant to the topic.
- Factual claims about therapy formats, costs, or how something works are linked to their source, usually in a "Sources" or citation list at the end of the article.
- Before an article is published, a second person on our team checks it against those sources - not for opinion, but to catch anything unsupported, out of date, or overstated.
- Articles are re-checked periodically (at least annually, sooner if the underlying guidance changes), and the "last reviewed" date at the top of the article is updated when they are.
If you spot something that looks out of date, or that doesn't match what a cited source actually says, please tell us - see Contact us below. We'd rather fix it than leave it.
Affiliate relationships
This page may contain affiliate links. If you click through and sign up with a service, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects which options we present or how we describe them. Being an affiliate never changes how we describe a service, and we do not accept payment for positive coverage. Affiliate links only appear on pages that are directly about a specific paid service - educational articles never carry them.
